Sun Prairie East defeated Milton 21-18 on Oct. 2, earning a key Badger-Large football win after a difficult loss to Monona Grove the week before.

Milton opened the scoring with a rushing touchdown, but the Cardinals answered with two scores. Braylon Peterson reached the end zone on the ground, and sophomore quarterback Carter Kavanaugh connected with Kellen Russell for another touchdown.

The Red Hawks scored again before halftime, but Peterson's second rushing touchdown extended East's advantage in the third quarter. Milton answered in the fourth and trailed by three points as the game entered its final moments.

Defensive lineman Parnell Haynes broke up a fourth-down pass late in the game to help preserve the win. Kavanaugh finished 15-for-18 passing for 144 yards and one touchdown. Peterson ran 21 times for 104 yards and two scores, while linebacker Jack Ostrenga recorded 11 tackles, including three for loss and a sack.

East improved to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Cardinals were scheduled to host Oregon on Oct. 9 and Watertown on Oct. 16.
