DeForest's football team lost to Reedsburg as it worked through a demanding early-season schedule.

After suffering a 29-15 season-opening defeat at Slinger in its Week 1 matchup, DeForest hit the road again, this time to face the Reedsburg Beavers on Friday, Aug. 28, at Millennium Field.

DeForest has experience with the Beavers. A year prior, Reedsburg defeated DeForest 54-21 before advancing to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Division 3 state title game.

The Beavers, now ranked No. 3 in the latest Bound Wisconsin Division 3 Coaches Poll, used a strong rushing attack to soundly defeat DeForest, 28-6.

DeForest's lone score of the evening came in the third quarter, Because of a 35-yard touchdown reception by junior tight end Michael Allen.

Game recap

Offensively, Reedsburg’s rushing attack totaled 323 yards. DeForest was held to just 36 rushing yards total.

Senior quarterback Tru Killerlain made some noteworthy scrambles — he ran for 42 yards — but the rest of DeForest's rushes each resulted in a loss of yards, according to Bound Wisconsin.

Killerlain finished his evening with 59 passing yards, tossing one touchdown on 8-for-15 completions.

On the receiving end, Allen’s 35-yard score was a team high for DeForest. Senior Dalton Lee had 14 receiving yards on two receptions, while senior tight end Owen Taylor chipped in with nine receiving yards.

While points were difficult to come by Friday evening, DeForest's defense kept DeForest within striking distance. DeForest trailed only 14-0 at the half and 21-6 going into the fourth quarter.

Senior defensive back Noah Manthe corralled a 25-yard interception, while junior linebacker Baylor Skolaski scooped up one fumble recovery.

Senior linebacker Bryar Herring led DeForest in tackles with 11. It was the second straight game that he recorded double-digit tackles after corralling 13 tackles against Slinger.

Meanwhile, Baylor Skolaski chipped in with nine tackles — which included a team-high six solo tackles — while senior Dane Faas had seven tackles.

DeForest football team celebrates after a fumble recovering during DeForest’s 28-6 Week 2 loss to Reedsburg on Friday, Aug. 28 at Reedsburg High School.

Up next for DeForest, DeForest will continue their road-heavy trend to start the season with a trip to face the Oregon Panthers on Friday, Sept. 4. DeForest will return to DMB Community Bank Stadium for the first time this fall on Thursday, Sept. 10 against the Sun Prairie East Cardinals. Both games are listed for 7 p.m.
