Turnovers, penalties and a missed two-point conversion shaped Marshall's narrow homecoming loss.

Marshall lost its Oct. 2 homecoming football game 8-6 to Horicon/Hustisford, giving the MarshFalcons their first win of the season. The result left Marshall at 3-4 overall and 1-4 in Eastern Suburban Conference play.

A high snap gave Horicon/Hustisford possession at the Marshall 17 early in the game. The visitors scored on a quarterback run and converted for two points, taking an 8-0 lead they held through halftime.

Marshall's defense produced multiple takeaways, including interceptions by Ryan Braun, Isaac Falcon and Santiago Alvarez Cano. In the third quarter, Braun, starting at quarterback for the first time this season, ran for a touchdown. Marshall's attempt to tie the game with a two-point conversion failed.

The Cardinals threatened again late in the fourth quarter, but penalties and a dropped pass in the end zone ended their best chance. Horicon/Hustisford then ran out the clock.

Marshall was scheduled to visit Belleville on Oct. 9 and host Cambridge on Oct. 16. As of Oct. 2, Belleville led the conference at 5-0, with Cambridge and Pardeeville both at 4-1.
