The month of May has been especially kind for the DeForest Norskies boys’ tennis team.

Since the start of the month, the Norskies have reeled off four victories, including wins over McFarland, Sauk Prairie, Portage and Milton. The only loss the Norskies suffered was to Reedsburg, where they fell 5-2.

According to Tennis Reporting, DeForest is now 11-9-1 on the 2026 season with postseason play knocking on the door.

The Norskies started their action on the courts on Friday, May 1, where they took on a two-game invitational in Sauk Prairie. DeForest started — and finished — strong, scoring back-to-back 5-2 victories over McFarland and Sauk Prairie.

Individually, Norskies’ No. 2 singles Christopher Sorenson won both of his matches. Sorenson defeated McFarland’s opponent by scores of 6-2 and 6-3 before securing a double bagel against Sauk Prairie, where he didn’t drop a single set. So far this season, Sorenson has only lost two matches, where he sports a 19-2 record on the season. According to Tennis Reporting, Sorenson’s 19 wins is tied for the fifth highest in the state.

Another Norski who won both of his matches on Friday was No. 4 singles, Everett Meinen. Meinen defeated McFarland by scores of 6-2 and 7-6 (6), before cruising past Sauk Prairie by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.

Heading over to doubles, DeForest’s No. 1 tandem of Ben Anderson and William Sachtjen scored 7-5 and 6-1 victories over McFarland. They followed that with 6-2 and 6-4 victories over Sauk Prairie to cap a 2-0 evening.

The Norskies didn’t have much time to waste, heading to Portage for a quad on Saturday, May 2, where they took on Reedsburg and Portage.

Despite the loss to Reedsburg, DeForest left the quad on a high note with a 7-0 sweep against Portage.

DeForest’s No. 1 singles Jonathan Wells — who is up to 16-5 on the season — won his matches by scores of 6-0 and 6-1 before Christopher Sorenson and No. 3 singles Noah McDowell each won their matches by scores of 6-0 and 6-0.

Everett Meinen was just the icing on the cake, scoring back-to-back 6-1 victories to cap a perfect singles outing for the Norskies.

In doubles, Ben Anderson and William Sachtjen secured a double bagel before the No. 2 doubles duo of Miles Meinen and Dylan Schmidt won by scores of 6-1 and 6-1. The Norskies completed the complete sweep thanks to 6-2 and 7-5 victories from its No. 3 tandem of Sebastian Leale and Kellen Feiner.

After plenty of action on the weekend, DeForest returned to conference play in a dual meet against Milton, where the Norskies eked out a narrow 4-3 victory.

All of DeForest’s points came from its singles, with Jonathan Wells (7-5, 6-2), Christopher Sorenson (7-5, 6-2), Noah McDowell (6-1, 6-1) and Everett Meinen (6-0, 6-1) each scoring victories for the Norskies.

Playoffs loomingPostseason play is almost here.

The Norskies will close the week with a pair of home matches against Baraboo on Friday, May 8 and Madison East on Monday, May 11, before the conference tournament kicks off on Friday, May 15, through Saturday, May 16, at UW-Madison Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

According to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA), subsectionals will begin the following week on either May 26 or May 27, with sectionals, individual state and team state to follow.
